Trail Building Workshop
November 27, 2016 | No Comments

Dear Trail Enthusiast,

We are pleased to inform you about the Fat Tire Societies upcoming Trail Building Workshop.

By attending the Trail Building School workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to learn the basics of planning, designing and constructing sustainable hand-built trails. Our goal is train those volunteers who are willing to help us build new single track trail in the next two years.

The class will be from 8:30 - 4:00 on 12/10/16.

Class size is limited. Click here to register now!

Our morning will begin with a classroom presentation as we detail the fundamental steps to planning for and constructing low-impact singletrack. This presentation will discuss (but is not limited to) the steps needed for successful planning and land manager relations, understanding our user base, understanding system layout and progression, the principles of grade and how to measure it, flagging and pinning corridor, procedures for proper bench cutting, and the principles of maintenance and understanding seasonal impacts.

Following the presentation we will enjoy a quick lunch before heading into the field to construct a segment of trail using principles from the classroom. The workshop will begin with a safety talk and quick demonstration of common trail building tools. Volunteers will then get their chance to sink the tools into the dirt as we work together to build hand-cut singletrack. We will wrap up with a quick debrief on how to care for and maintain new trail before the day is over.

If you are interested in participating please register for the class as soon as possible. We have a limited amount of positions available and advance registration is required.

We look forward to seeing you!
